In recent years, the Real Estate group has played a large role in the transformation of Uptown Columbus. Notable projects include the Synovus Centre building, Riverfront building, Starrett-Bytewise corporate offices, and Eagle & Phenix Mills —a multi-use development located on 13 acres along the river in Uptown Columbus. In 2017, the Real Estate group announced its newest venture — The Rapids at Riverfront Place — a five-story mixed-use building which will include 226 luxury apartments and space for retail, shops, and a restaurant. This $52 million development, the largest real estate project in the company’s history, opened in 2019. The Rapids was designed around the creation of Mathews D. Swift Park, a large pedestrian-friendly park, and is part of a multi-year plan to further develop the W.C. Bradley Co.’s riverfront landholdings in Uptown Columbus, Georgia, and Phenix City, Alabama. The Rapids was followed by the opening of Hotel Indigo at RiverFront Place. In 2021, the Real Estate group broke ground on the final two phases of Riverfront Place — a 230,000 square foot Class-A office building. This office at Riverfront Place will become the new home of Synovus Financial Corp.’s corporate headquarters and will be officially named Riverfront Center. Riverfront Center will feature 14 floors of office, retail and parking that includes a lobby café, rooftop terrace garden and full fitness center. In addition to the corporate headquarters, the last phase of Riverfront Place will also include a 226-unit multifamily residential community consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, amenities including, a garden-style pool, putting green, hammock park, 24 hour fitness center, club room including private offices and conference room for remote working residents, a large outdoor courtyard, community wi-fi, a bike storage and repair shop and a dog spa; in addition to a state-of-the-art Synovus Branch; a 1,150-car parking structure; and 40,000 square feet of street-level retail space along Front Avenue and Broadway.
